Becky Blanket

becky blanket

If you’re looking for an easy (yet still fun) project that you can work on while “listening” to your TV, look no further than the Becky Blanket crochet pattern! Named for a friend of mine, this chunky blanket is incredibly warm and has minimal holes for toes to poke through.

The Becky Blanket uses Stitch Studio Paz by Nicole, which is a size 6 super chunky yarn that I just fell in love with as soon as I saw it. The love absolutely overflowed when I touched it…it’s super soft too! If you’re interested, I purchased this yarn at A.C. Moore. I’m not sure if you can purchase it anywhere other than there. I will have to look into it.

I’m not an affiliate for this yarn brand, I just really enjoyed working with it. I will say that frogging it isn’t always a smooth process, but if you have a pattern you’re working with and rarely have to tear anything out, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Any size 6 yarn you prefer can be used for this pattern. You also have the option to use worsted weight yarn if you adjust the foundation chain (starting chain). You will need to use a multiple of four chains and whichever size hook the yarn label recommends.

This pattern uses a simple three double crochet shell stitch and single crochets. There is a stitch chart included as well. The Becky Blanket is beginner friendly too! Great for gift giving!

The finished blanket measures 49″ width by 60″ length, however, you can customize it to any size you desire by adjusting the foundation chain and increasing the number of rows.

Notes:

  • The border uses a color change for each stripe of color. Instructions and photos are included below. This border is optional. If you find it too difficult, you can always single crochet a solid border around the blanket instead.
  • If you are changing colors for the border, you have the option to cut each strand as you end that color OR carry along, crocheting one color over top of the other. The choice is yours. The example used cut strands which were weaved in later. If you cut the strands, make sure you leave a long enough tail to weave in securely.
  • If you’d like to use this stitch pattern for another project, you will need a FC with a multiple of 4 chs.

*** American crochet terms used throughout.

You will work a total of 94 rows. Don’t finish off after Row 94.

Border

The border consists of only 1 row of single crochets.

Working along the longer edge that has the color changes, ch 1, sc evenly until the color changes to silver (or the 2nd color you choose). Switch colors as shown below in the photos. Cut the 1st color strand if you are not carrying along underneath the 2nd color strand.

changing colors for border
  1. Insert hook into final st of 1st color, YO and draw back through st. You will have 2 loops on your hook. Release that 1st color strand. See Notes section for more information.
  2. With 2nd color, YO your hook and draw through both loops of 1st color. Make sure you don’t pull the “tail” through. You can sc over top of the 2nd color tail to secure it.
  3. Insert hook into next st, YO with new color and draw back through st. You will have 2 loops on your hook.
  4. YO and draw through both loops. Continue to sc evenly to next color change and repeat steps 1 – 4.

You will work 3 sc in each corner. Along the bottom and top of blanket, simply work a row of grey sc along those edges. You will finish with a 3 sc corner. Sl st into 1st sc made of the border. Finish off. Weave in ends.
