Notes:
- You can change the team colors to your favorite team!
- You can also use embroidery floss if you don’t want to purchase the giant spools of crochet thread. They’re cheaper and smaller.
- The white detail on the football is handstitched on using a tapestry needle and a small amount of size 10 white crochet thread.
- You can adjust the length or the direction the earrings are facing by adding more jump rings.
- You have the choice to either glue or stitch the football in place OR to attach the football to the jump ring where it will swing freely, independent of the Team Colors Circle.
- When working the Team Colors Circle, you will have to change colors within a round. You’ll do this by NOT finishing the last pull-through of the old color double crochet, switching the thread to the new color, and pulling the new color through the old color double crochet to finish it. Then continue to work double crochets with the new color. The old color will be let go and hang there until you come back around to pick it up again for the following round.
- You can also omit the Team Colors Circle all together and simply use the football for the earrings. Double up the football pattern and place them back to back, either sewing or gluing them together to hide any stitching!

Finishing
Using a tapestry needle and white thread, stitch the football pattern similar to the example photo at the beginning of the pattern. If attaching the football to the Team Color Circle, there is no need to hide the back strings. Simply tie off and cut short enough so they don’t poke out.
Legend
Oval = chain
Plus sign = single crochet
Black dot = slip stitch
Please Note: The outside symbols that are pulled away from the center area represent the single round of border stitches. The pattern for the football starts at the base and works its way up.

Legend
Oval = chain
Black dot = slip stitch
T with a single slash through it = Color A double crochet stitch
T with a squiggle = Color B double crochet stitch
Please Note: Typically the “T” with the squiggle on it represents a double crochet with a bouillon stitch, however, in this example, the “T” with the squiggle will represent a standard double crochet worked in Color B.
Please Also Note: For the chart, you will work to the left for the first round, to the right for the second round, and to the left for the third round. Don’t cut any color thread until AFTER finishing Round 3.
Finishing
I recommend blocking each individual piece because it will give your earring a crisp appearance without curling or bending. You can use regular water, but for a more permanent hold, you can add a small amount of Elmer’s Glue to your water, stir until combined, and quickly dunk each piece before blocking. This will create a more permanent stiffness that is less likely to fold, crease, or curl, and the glue dries clear.
Once blocking is finished, you have the option to either glue or handstitch the football onto the Team Color Circle. You can also simply attach the football to the jump ring if you prefer to have it dangle loosely. Place the football over the color seam of the circle and attach using either glue or stitches.
Using the jewelry pliers, pry open the jump ring and run through the top of the earring where the two colors come together. Attach the fish hook earring and close the jump ring.
Repeat with the 2nd earring.
