Happy Snowman Graph

Use the Happy Snowman Graph to create a Christmas throw pillow, wall hanging, or small throw blanket! Change the colors to suit your preferences!

The image shown above is only a digital recreation of what the pillow could look like. You can use this graph for many different art forms, not just tapestry (sc) crochet!

Be sure to check out the Happy Santa Graph that goes with the Happy Snowman Graph!

Use the Happy Snowman Graph for Tapestry crochet (sc), Corner to Corner (C2C), tss, mini c2c, hdc, dc, bobble stitch, cross stitch, diamond art, or any other craft that utilizes a graph. This pattern uses 6 different yarn colors. The graph is 77 blocks (squares) high by 65 blocks (squares) wide.

A free printable one-page graph is available at the end of this blog post. Keep scrolling!

The finished project, when using a size 4 medium-weight yarn, 5.00 mm crochet hook, and single crochet is 16” x 16” (40.64 cm x 40.64 cm), which is perfect for a 16” x 16” pillow form that you can find in just about any craft store. Or you have the option to stuff the pillow yourself using Fiberfill or Polyfil.

You can also make a wall hanging with a single panel! Simply create your panel, and using a tapestry needle, wrap yarn around a rod or stick and through each stitch in your panel. Tie off. Then create a hanger using yarn, tying it at both ends of the stick as shown in the photo below.

General Pillow Assembly Instructions

To make a pillow, you will create 2 panels. You can make it double-sided by creating 2 of the same image or mix and match using other graphs from my blog of the same size. Or you can make a plain panel for the back using a starting chain of 66. Work your first stitch into the 2nd chain from the hook. And continue working for 77 rows.

To finish a pillow, you can either place two panels, right sides facing eachother, together and whip stitch around 3 sides. Flip the pillow right-side out. Insert your pillow form and whipstitch the final side closed. An alternative method is to place the two panels right side facing outward on both and single crocheting or slip stitching around the perimeter, ensuring that your stitches go through both panels. You would insert the pillow form before closing up the final side.

I don’t give recommendations for yarn or hook sizes since there are far too many combinations to list them all. However, I can give you a general, most often used, combination. If you use a size 4 medium-weight yarn, a 5.00 mm crochet hook, and regular C2C, your blanket will come out approximately 49” x 58” (124.46 cm x 147.32 cm). You can always add a border to make it larger. If you use a size 4 medium-weight yarn, a 5.00 mm crochet hook, and mini C2C, your blanket will come out approximately 32.5” x 38.5” (82.55 cm x 97.79 cm). If you use a smaller hook or yarn, the project will be smaller, and vice versa if you use a larger hook and yarn.

It comes out to a small throw size with regular C2C or a baby blanket size if you use mini C2C! You could always make a throw with a matching pillow if you don’t mind using C2C for one and SC for the other!

Since this graph can be used for a wide variety of techniques, I’ve created some calculators for you to be able to determine how much yarn you need as well as an approximate finished size of your project. If you click the links below, you’ll be taken to different blog posts where the calculators are located.
