J’adore Slouch

J'adore Slouch - hat laid flat on table

I must admit that I’m on a bit of a slouch hat kick lately and the J’adore Slouch is a pleasure to crochet! I love the simplicity of not having to shape a hat as well as the endless amount of lacy designs you can create.

I found a lacy stitch pattern in one of my stitch books (Melissa Leapman’s Indispensable Stitch Collection for Crocheters – affiliate link) on page 133 called Pretty Pearls and modified it to create what I was hoping looked like white hearts all around the hat.

I’m going to create a matching scarf to go with it. I will update this post when that pattern is live. If you would like to get notified the moment I post a new pattern, be sure to sign up for my Newsletter!

This pattern is fairly easy. The only stitches you will need to know are the single crochet and double crochet. I’ve included optional instructions for keeping the hat a solid color, but if you intend to change colors as I have done, you can simply ignore those instructions.

The J’adore Slouch also uses a two row repeat for the pattern, which is always nice and helps with being able to memorize the pattern quicker.

The circumference of the hat band is 19″ and in the Notes section of the pattern, I’ve given brief instructions on how to change the size of the hat. It all comes down the number of rows in the hat band to make the pattern work out.

Okay, enough jibber jabber…let’s get on with the pattern!

  • You will turn your work for every row while working on the hat band.
  • For the upper lacy portion of the J’adore Slouch hat, you will NOT be turning your work. You will work in the same direction for every round. (Unless you are following the optional instructions – see next bullet.)
  • Optional instructions are given for not changing colors if you’d prefer a solid color hat. These instructions are to be followed ONLY if NOT changing colors. If you are changing colors like the example, just ignore those optional instructions.

J'adore Slouch - laid flat on table before the top is cinched closed

Using a tapestry needle and the long tail, weave the yarn through the sts (skipping 2 sts between your weaving) from the top of Round 13 all the way back around to your starting point. Pull the tail tight, closing the hole. Tie a knot to secure it. Weave in any ends.
