The Mini Windsock Ghosts can be displayed almost anywhere since they use a binder ring that opens and closes. Hang them in trees, around your home or office, from curtain rods, your car rearview mirror, and more! And best of all, they glow in the dark!!!

These mini windsocks are super easy to make and come in two sizes—small and large. The only stitches you need to know are the slip stitch and single crochet. They work up super quickly and look amazing blowing in the breeze!
You have a few options for the eyes and mouth as well. You can use felt and hot glue as I have done or you can use buttons, yarn stitches, etc. Let’s get creative!
They look so cute when they are glowing, but the glow is subtle and my camera wouldn’t pick up the image for me to show you. You don’t have to use glow in the dark yarn. You can use whatever size 4 medium weight yarn you wish!
Aren’t they adorable!!! I’m like a proud mama!

Notes:
- These ghosts glow in the dark! You don’t have to use glow in the dark yarn. You can use any yarn you wish. The glow is subtle, and I wasn’t able to get photos because my camera couldn’t pick it up.
- You can use any metal or plastic ring you desire in any size for this project. If using a different size ring, I recommend not packing your stitches too close together for your first round because the more stitches there are, the more it will flare out (unless that is the look you are going for).
- You can also use buttons or black yarn to stitch on eyes and mouth if you prefer not to use felt.
- If you intend to keep this outside, please note that yarn doesn’t hold up well in weather and can begin to stretch when allowed to get wet and remain hanging. This decoration may be better under a porch roof or indoors, so you’ll be able to keep it much longer.
- A photo tutorial is available on my blog for how to crochet around a plastic ring. Even though we are crocheting around a metal ring, the steps are the same. You can see that tutorial here.
- You can use anything you want to hang your ghost. I chose fishing line because I liked that it was nearly invisible, creating a “floating” ghost effect. You can absolutely use yarn, cord, thread, etc.
- Tip to keep your back seam straight: work your first stitch of each round into the very first space available after your chain. See photo below.

Finishing
Eyes and Mouth
Cut three matching oval shapes from your black felt.
Using a hot glue gun, fabric glue, OR needle and thread, attach both eyes and mouth onto the side of the ghost that doesn’t have the seam of stitches.
Fringe (optional)
Cut 25 lengths of yarn (4” each) for small ghost and/or 30 lengths of yarn (6” each) for the large ghost. Attach one strand of yarn per stitch of final row made of ghost. Trim to make even if desired.
Fishing Line Hanger
Cut 3 strands of fishing line—12” each.
Attach the three strands of fishing line equidistant around the macramé hoop by folding them in half, pulling the middle through the stitch, and running the 2 ends through the loop you pulled up. Tighten the line by pulling the 2 ends.
It’s the same method for adding fringe to a crochet project.
Once all three ends are attached, collect all 6 ends together at the top, ensuring that the macramé hoop is level. Tie all 6 ends together. You may need to put a dot of glue on the knot to keep it from coming undone.
Attach your binder ring at the top for hanging. Since the ring opens and closes, you’ll have more options for where you can hang your ghost. How about in a tree?
I also created a full-size Ghost Windsock that you can see at the link!
