Mitten Ornament/Gift Card Holder

Well hello there!

It’s week 2 of the six week Christmas ornament/gift card holder pattern series. This week I created an adorable little mitten with a snowflake detail!

This mitten ornament/gift card holder is crocheted using size 10 crochet thread. There are no difficult stitches and you can easily whip one of these up in a short time.

I was actually thinking about making a whole slew of these for my tree this year, just because I thought they were so cute. You could make them all in one color for a more color-themed tree or you could make them in every color of the rainbow! How fun is that!

The ornament created for week 1 — the Stocking Ornament/Gift Card Holder (that you can see at the link if you missed it) included a crocheted hanger. This time, I found these sweet little wire hangers at Hobby Lobby and I couldn’t wait to use them. You have the option to use a crocheted hanger or the wire. The instructions for the crocheted hanger are at the end of the pattern.

This mitten ornament/gift card holder uses very little thread from one of those usually giant spools you can buy and thread is usually pretty inexpensive. You could probably make 50 mittens from one spool. (That’s just a guess, but I have a ton left over.)

Is that what the thread is called? A spool? Or would it be a skein? I don’t know. Spool sounds good. πŸ˜‰ We’ll go with that.

  1. You’re so welcome, Marlene! That was a great story! I’m so glad to hear that you were able to bring some crocheted joy to your granddaughters. Thank you for sharing and have a great day!

  2. I crocheted a mitten for each of my 2 granddaughters aged 10 & 12 who were on a trip during the Christmas season. I put a candy cane, wrapped candy and a $5 bill into the mitten. I placed them into a Christmas Box to be packed in their suitcase for opening on Christmas morning. My daughter sent me a picture of the happy girls holding the mittens. How exciting to make memories. Thank you for sharing the pattern.

  3. Hi Mary Jo! I’m sorry that part is confusing. I meant to decrease only once per round. If you have any more questions, please let me know! Thank you!

  4. In the body of the mitten, the instructions say “sc2tog using next 2 st” but show a decrease of 2 stitches in each round. Do I need to do 2 decrease stitches in each of these rounds?

  5. You’re so welcome, Jill! I’m so glad that you like the pattern and will be able to use it for your grandchildren! Thanks for stopping by!
