Ocean Waves Towel

Ocean Waves TowelOcean Waves Towel

Hi everyone!

I’m back again to share the matching towel to the Ocean Waves Washcloth!

This towel is a little wider than the washcloth and I also designed it so that it is incredibly easy. There are no increases or decreases like in the traditional towel topper patterns with only a single button. This is completely beginner friendly and it will look like you bought it!

This post may contain affiliate links for products I use and recommend. If you make a purchase through one of my links, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. For more information, please see my disclosure policy.

The only stitches you will need to know are single crochet and a 4-double crochet cluster. Now don’t let that intimidate you! If you can work a double crochet, you can do this too! I’ve included written instructions in the Special Stitches section of the pattern to help you along.

You could make the washcloths and towels in any color that matches your decor or they would also make excellent gifts for friends, family, coworkers, church members, etc.

I’m so in love with this stitch and I’m wondering what other items can I make with it? I bet a baby blanket would be gorgeous! And I was also thinking about what stripes would look like… So many possibilities!

Here is the chart I got from Pinterest. The link was broken when I clicked on it, so I can’t tell you exactly where it is from.

This is a screenshot from my phone. I apologize for the magnifying glass in the upper right hand corner. I couldn’t figure out how to remove it.

If you want to try your hand at making something with this stitch pattern, you will only need a multiple of 6 stitches for your foundation chain. I’d love to see what you all can come up with! If you post to Instagram, please tag me @highlandhickorydesigns so I can admire your work!

The ball of yarn shows all that was left from my skein.

The buttons go on the right side of your towel (whichever side you like the most).

Place each button 3 stitches in from either side of the towel, with the button holes approximately 4 rows of single crochets up from the last row with clusters. Stitch each button into place using a sewing needle and thread.

  1. Satisfying to know that in this world there is another human who gets a sink full of dishes, from where I know not! AND I live alone! Great kitchen ideas, will keep me busy.

  2. Hi Ginger! I purchased two foam boards from Michael’s. They are slightly larger than sheet paper and they come in many colors. I believe they were in the stationary section. I also purchased some “T” pins at Wal-Mart to pin it to the boards. You can buy either of these products at many different stores. Check the stationary and sewing sections. Anyway, I laid the two boards end to end and placed the towel on top. I wet the towel thoroughly with a spray bottle and then gently placed the pins maybe 2″ apart around the perimeter of the towel. Then I let it dry. I hope this helps! Thanks for commenting!

  3. How exactly do you block the towel? I have only crocheted afghans and I didn’t block them.
    Thank you, Ginger

  4. Thank you! Those boards work really well for smaller projects and they don’t cost a fortune. I think I bought every white one that Michael’s had that day I went in there. LOL! Thanks for commenting!

  5. What a brilliant idea to use the foam boards for locking. I have plenty of those and will try it!

  6. Hi Brenda!

I’m so glad that you like the patterns and how exciting to be getting a Hobby Lobby soon! I’m addicted to their yarn…so many choices. I hope you find some that you love. Enjoy the patterns and thanks for commenting!

  7. I am so excited about the towel and dish cloths. We have a new hobby lobby opening May 14. I can hardly wait to go and get cotton yarn to make these!!
