Upcycled Acorns

upcycled acorns

These adorable little upcycled acorns are created by crocheting around a 1″ plastic ring that can be found just below the cap on bottles of water. Using only chains, single crochets and half double crochets, this pattern is incredibly simple.

I’ve created a photo tutorial for crocheting around a plastic ring if you’ve never done so. You can see that tutorial here.

Now what can I do with all of these little crocheted acorns, you say? Well, you can make a garland to decorate your home, office, or classroom. You could hot glue those wallet sized photos to the back to make sweet little picture frames. How about sliding a rolled napkin inside the ring to decorate an Autumn themed table? Or, my personal favorite, to add a hanger to the top to create ornaments!

Garland Option

Cut 9 – 8” lengths of packaging twine.

Using your hook, pull one end of the twine through the right edge of an acorn cap on one acorn and then pull the other end of the twine through the left edge of the acorn cap of another acorn.

Tie a small basic bow. Trim off excess ends if too long.

Repeat for all 8 acorns.

For the hanging loops, draw the twine through the left edge of the acorn cap of the first acorn on the garland. And then repeat with the last piece of twine in the right edge of the acorn cap of the final acorn on the garland. Tie basic knots (or bows—your choice!).

Ornament Option

You can attach the 8” twine to either the stem of the acorn cap or slightly offset from the stem.
