Wavy Shells Mittens
Hey there!
Last week I released the Wavy Shells Beanie that you can see at the link and I didn’t want to release just a hat and nothing more. I love sets and recently I’ve been doing hats and scarves. Well this time I wanted to do something a little different.

The Wavy Shells Mittens are very easy. The only stitches you need to know are single crochet and double crochet. I’ve even included quite a few tutorial photos to make it even easier!
You even have the choice to work in the round (for those of you who prefer a seamless look) or to finish off every row, which is what I did in the example. And I can tell you, the length of seam that is visible is minimal.
I designed the Wavy Shells Beanie last year and wore the prototype all winter and, boy, was that thing warm! Here in Pennsylvania, we tend to get some pretty cold temperatures and the tightness of the single crochet stitches and the thickness of the folded up cuff put that hat on my list as 1st choice for winter wearables.
Update: There is now a matching scarf pattern available for free as well. Click here to see the Wavy Shells Pocket Scarf!
So, I was hoping to recreate that level of warmth with the Wavy Shells Mittens. The single crochets should keep most of the cold out!
Here is a pin of the Wavy Shells Mittens for your Pinterest boards…

Notes:
- You will be making your thumb piece before you make your finger piece because, to continue on with the pattern, you need the thumb completed.
- This pattern is written for one glove that when flipped over will fit the other hand.
- You have the option to work in the round for this pattern as long as you keep track of your rows, but the pattern is written for joining every row.
- The instructions indicate using a magic circle for your FC, but if you are unfamiliar with the magic circle, you can simply ch 4, sl st in 1st ch to form a loop. Then continue with Row 1. I learned the magic circle from this video by Sharon Ojala. It’s short and to the point.
- For smaller hands, you can decrease the amount of rounds from the Rounds 6 – 23 of the fingers piece as well as from the Rounds 3 – 9 of the thumb piece. These mittens are designed to be slightly over-sized for wiggle room.
*** American crochet terms used throughout.
Instructions:
Note: Follow the entire pattern two times to make two mittens.

When working your rounds after this point, try to gently pull your sl st at the end of each row tight, which tucks in that st to make it less noticeable.
